Tengumaru’s shikai release command is “Uchikudake” (打ち砕け, “Crush Down”).

Tengumaru has the ability to manipulate fire. Its special ability, Hifuki no Koduchi (火吹の小槌, “Fire-Blowing Gavel”), allows Love to swing Tengumaru up and ignite it in flames. He can then point it downwards and fire a huge fireball from the tip. The fireball explodes outwards a great distance upon impact, and the resulting blast is strong enough to cave in buildings and incinerate anything in the area.

After becoming a Visored, Love began to carry Tengumaru over his shoulder using a tōju (sword strap) instead of wearing it at his waist like a normal katana. This is likely because Tengumaru is much larger and heavier in its shikai form, and carrying it over his shoulder makes it easier for him to move around and fight.
