Black Clover New Season: Release Date, Episodes & Is It Over?

Last updated: October 2026.

After a five-year wait, Black Clover is back. The anime returned with a new season in 2026, the manga reached its ending earlier the same year, and fans have more questions than ever. Here is a clear, spoiler-light answer to each one.

Is There a New Season of Black Clover?

Yes. Black Clover's anime returned in 2026 with a new season, the first new TV episodes since the original series ended in March 2021. The first trailer was revealed at Jump Festa 2026 in December 2025, and most English-language coverage calls it Black Clover Season 2.

You may also see it called "Season 5". Streaming services split the original 170 episodes into four seasons, so some fans count the new one as the fifth. Both names refer to the same new season.

Black Clover new season release date

The new season premiered in October 2026, picking up the story right where the original anime stopped, with episode 171 and the Spade Kingdom arc.

What will Season 2 cover?

The new season adapts the Spade Kingdom arc, which many manga readers consider the best part of the story. It's where Asta faces the Dark Triad and unlocks his strongest form, Devil Union. Asta's Japanese voice actor, Gakuto Kajiwara, said the season will show a more human side of Asta.

Asta's new form is explained, without major spoilers, in Asta's devil and demon form.

Is Black Clover Over?

It depends on whether you mean the manga or the anime.

• The manga is over. Black Clover began in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2015, later moved to Jump GIGA, and officially ended in 2026 after 11 years with a final release that crowned a new Wizard King.
• The anime is not over. The new season is adapting the story the original anime never reached, so there is plenty left to animate, all the way to the ending.

Curious who becomes Wizard King? It's answered (with a spoiler warning) in Asta vs Yuno: who becomes the Wizard King.

How Many Seasons and Episodes Does Black Clover Have?

The original anime by Studio Pierrot aired from October 2017 to March 2021 and ran for 170 episodes. Streaming services usually split them into four seasons:

There's also a movie, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, released in 2023. It tells an original story outside the main timeline, so you can watch it any time.

Can you skip the filler?

Some episodes are filler that doesn't come from the manga. If you want to catch up quickly before the new season, you can skip most of them. Our advice: don't skip the Black Bulls' everyday episodes if you're new. They're a big part of why fans love the squad.

Was Black Clover cancelled?

No. When the original anime ended at episode 170 in March 2021, many fans assumed the Black Clover television show had been cancelled. In fact it went on a long break so the manga could build up story to adapt. The 2026 return proves the anime was never cancelled, only paused.

Will there be a Black Clover Season 6?

Nothing has been announced beyond the current season. Because the manga is complete, there is enough story left for more seasons. We'll update this page as soon as there's news.

What Is Black Clover About?

Black Clover follows Asta, an orphan born without magic in a world where magic is everything, and his rival Yuno, a natural genius. Both dream of becoming the Wizard King, the strongest mage in the Clover Kingdom.

Asta's five-leaf grimoire gives him anti-magic swords instead of spells. He joins the Black Bulls, the kingdom's most chaotic squad of Magic Knights, and fights his way up against elves, devils and rival kingdoms, without ever gaining magic of his own. Our complete Asta guide covers his story, and Black Bulls members explained introduces his squad.
